Silver Cross has been making pushchairs and prams since 1877. That’s not a marketing line — it’s a genuine piece of British manufacturing history, and it shows in the way they build things. There’s a solidity and craftsmanship to a Silver Cross pushchair that you notice the moment you get your hands on one.
I’ve been covering this brand since 2006 and they’ve evolved enormously. The old Pioneer and Wave have given way to a modern range that genuinely competes with Bugaboo and UPPAbaby on quality while maintaining that distinctly British character. If anything, Silver Cross is better now than it has ever been.
What I’d say about Silver Cross overall: they reward parents who do their research. The range is broader than most people realise, and the right model for a first-time parent in a flat in Manchester is very different from the right model for a family with a big car and a country lifestyle. Get it right and you’ll have a pushchair that lasts years. Get it wrong and you’ll be back on the market sooner than you planned.
The current Silver Cross range
Silver Cross Cove — the all-terrain flagship
The Cove is Silver Cross’s premium all-terrain pushchair and their current flagship model. It’s built for parents who want one pushchair that handles everything — city streets, country paths, and everything in between. The carrycot is approved for overnight sleeping, the seat is reversible and fully reclines, and there’s a 10kg shopping basket underneath that you can actually use.
It’s suitable from birth to around 22kg (approximately 4 years) and comes with a built-in elevation system that brings baby closer to you — something parents of newborns genuinely appreciate. Compatible with Silver Cross’s own car seats and a range of third-party brands.
If you’re looking at the Bugaboo Fox 5 and wondering whether Silver Cross offers a genuine alternative at this level — the Cove absolutely does. Worth comparing the two directly before you decide.

Silver Cross Tide — lightest multi-terrain
The Tide is Silver Cross’s answer for parents who want multi-terrain capability without the weight and bulk of the Cove. It’s their lightest multi-terrain model, folds to a freestanding compact shape that stands on its own wheels, and the fold is car boot approved — meaning it doesn’t need a bag or cover to go in the boot.
The carrycot is approved for overnight sleeping, the seat lies fully flat, and four-wheel suspension keeps the ride smooth. From birth to 22kg. If you’re doing a lot of walking and need something genuinely manageable on your own, the Tide is worth serious consideration.

Silver Cross strollers — Pop, Clic, Zest, Reflex
Silver Cross has a strong range of lightweight strollers that are worth knowing about, particularly as second pushchairs or for parents who don’t need a full travel system from day one.
The Pop is the everyday workhorse — suitable from birth, uncomplicated, good value. The Clic is compact and easy to use. The Zest is their lightweight option for parents who prioritise portability. The Reflex has an umbrella fold for very compact storage.
None of these are premium pushchairs, but they do their job well and Silver Cross’s build quality means they outlast cheaper alternatives from less established brands.
What Silver Cross does better than most
Heritage and build quality. Nearly 150 years of pram making isn’t just a number. It translates into attention to detail, quality of materials, and a robustness that you feel in everyday use. Silver Cross pushchairs don’t feel cheap, even at the lower end of the range.
British design sensibility. Silver Cross understands British conditions — our narrow hallways, our terraced houses, our variable weather. Their products are designed with UK parents specifically in mind in a way that some European brands simply aren’t.
Secondhand value. Silver Cross holds its value extremely well on the secondhand market. A well-kept Cove or Tide bought privately will often be significantly cheaper than a new equivalent from a lesser brand, and will outlast it too.
Who Silver Cross is right for
Silver Cross suits parents who value quality and longevity over cutting-edge features. If you want a pushchair that will still feel solid and look good three years from now, Silver Cross is a very strong choice.
They’re particularly well suited to UK conditions — parents dealing with real British streets, real British weather, and real British house sizes. The brand understands that a pushchair needs to work in a narrow hallway and fit in a normal car boot, not just look good in a studio photoshoot.
If you’re comparing Silver Cross against Bugaboo at a similar price point, it often comes down to this: Bugaboo wins on innovation and ride feel; Silver Cross wins on heritage, practicality, and value retention. Neither is wrong — it depends what matters most to you.
