Over the past twelve months we have seen an increasing number of reversible pushchairs on the market. Manufacturers have extended their range of rear facing pushchairs, and when you think about it, the reason is obvious. If you have ever tried to talk to the back of someone’s head whilst standing above them, conversation is virtually impossible!
A campaign run by the National Literacy Trust encourages parents and carers to talk more to children from birth to three. The Reversible pushchair allows you to face your baby towards you, especially useful in the early months as it’s nice to be able to keep an eyeon your little ‘bundle of joy’. They enjoy having eye contact with you; recognize your face and you can talk to your baby as you stroll along. As they get a little older and start to sit up you can face them away from you, giving them a totally different view, watching the world go by – keeping them amused.
There are lots of styles to choose from and many well known brands as well as the not so well known. The Reversible seat is the most common in pushchair brands as in the Maxi Cosi Elea Pushchair the but you can also buy a pushchair with a reversible flip handle a perfect example is the Graco Symbio, its so simple you just flip the handle without having to disturb your baby, perfect for when the sun is in their eyes or the wind is too strong.
Both are easy to change the position of the way your baby travels, most reversible’s also have an adjustable backrest to let your baby lie-flat, or situp and take in the view. There are more choices of pushchairs with reversible seats than reversible handles on the market at this time. The reversible styles all have a different set of features, and a varied price range, and there will be one to suit you whatever your budget.

I agree that there are more parent facing pushchairs than before but the market hasn’t even touched on doubles or those light weight puchchairs that you need to do a big shop or get about on buses. Its true its obvious why these puschairs are needed – conversation is impossible without a parent facing puschair and my kids love the chats we have. But this article still implies that parent facing mode is only used for the first few months (less than 6mths) and then the seat is turned round to see the world. This isn’t supporting conversation as most children don’t say their first words until they are 9mths. I say ditch the pushchairs that face away and keep your child(s) seat(s) parent facing until they outgrow it altogether. I love the Obaby zoom both seats can be parent facing or one can face their sibbling for a chat. Brilliant! Zapp xtra – disappointing finally the seat is parent facing but as soon as your child sits up properly upto 4mths they have to face away as the parent facing mode doesnt accommodate a sitting up position – DOH!.
I found this item when I was looking for a rear-facing lightweight buggy for you grandson. I have found it impossible to find one and I have found his speech has come on so well with being able to talk to me face to face. If I have to get a lightweight one that faces away I will lose thic contact with him.
